Commercials with doorbells ringing - any other dog owners HATE these?

Seriously - I feel like the FCC should ban commercials from prominently using things like doorbells, sirens etc. Advertisers clearly do this on purpose to stake out a place in your memory bank when your dogs go ape shite. My dog basically NEVER barks - only when he hears other dogs barking on TV (rare) or if he hears a commercial with a doorbell ringing (not so rare). It takes him like 45 seconds to stop his barking (and it's LOUD). I especially pity people who own really barky dogs who aren't chill.

Anybody else have this as one of life's biggest pet peeves?

quote:

Advertisers are using doorbells as an engagement driver for dog-filled households across the U.S. In fact, nearly 40% of all U.S. households own a dog. Pets are such a prevalent part of so many people's lives that using them in advertising further extends a brands emotional connection. Wow! So, the doorbell strategy is really quite smart, with such a huge number of households owning dogs.

Dude it's most prevalent during sporting events and evening news. I was getting my ABC Nightly News on and it happened again. My GF is napping in the bedroom and she gets woken up b/c of this bull shite commercial. Only time he ever barks.

Of course I have a DVR - no poors allowed up in hurr.

No.

My dog is smart enough to know what's real and what's on tv.

Plus, I don't have a doorbell.

My dog got sick of the "boy who cried wolf" game whenever the doorbell would ring on TV and there really wasn't someone at the front door that wanted to pet him. He used to go crazy.

Now he'll just give one courtesy bark while barely lifting his head off of his bed/couch/wherever else he's not supposed to be. It's sad really - he's only 15 months old. I say no doorbells in commercials, ever.

I don't watch a ton of live TV so it happens rarely enough to where he doesn't catch on.

Also the commercial people are fricking crafty - more time than not the doorbell leads off a commercial and more times than not the doorbell commercial is the first one in the break, so if you're not on the ball you'll hear it even if you are DVR'ing.

Evil advertisers.

Count me in, my dog actually watches tv. If any and I mean ANY sort of animal comes on the tv he is up and at it.

I hate those commercials as both my dogs go into severe barking mode.

How about just not have a dog then you'd have peace and quiet and so would your neighbors.

Whats worse is radio commercials with slamming car horns. Shouldn't be aloud IMO, make a motherfricker nervous.

you're giving yourself way too much credit for knowing what your dog is thinking

I watched a clip on instagram of somebody playing a doorbell sound over and over. It was hilarious watching the dogs go crazy every time. It may not be a tragic as you're interpreting it to be

Mine does that too. She also hauls arse to her safe place when the weekly emergency test comes on the tv.
